ELVIS PRESLEY’S SEARS CREDIT CARD
I purchased Mr. Elvis Presley’s Sears and Roebuck Co. credit card from Mr. David Delaney. It is signed on the reverse Mrs. Elvis Presley by Priscilla Presley in blue ink. Based on the design of the credit card it is late 1960’s. The signature matches that of his former wife Priscilla Presley.
History of the piece is quite interesting and I have added to Mr. Delaney’s letter based on my research.
SUMMARY
When Elvis sold his Trousdale Hills Estate Home in 1974 he rented a apartment for Linda Thompson, his then girl friend from 1972-1976. Elvis paid for the rent and continued to so until he passed away in 1977. To furnish this apartment Elvis gave Linda his bedroom from the Trousdale home which included a bed, dresser and two (2) side tables.
Linda continued to live at the Eastborn Avenue home in Los Angeles until 1981 while taking on a roommate. Mr. Delaney’s future wife, Shelly had befriended Linda a few years earlier. When Linda decided to Marry Bruce Jenner there was no longer a need to have the apartment and offered Shelly her room with Elvis’ furniture.
Shelly one afternoon with her then, new roommate though that maybe there was money hidden in the furniture. Mainly doing this from share boredom. The very first dresser drawer they pulled out had the Sears Credit Card and a few hundred dollars taped to the bottom of the drawer.
When Shelly married David 14 year late she presented him with this credit card as a wedding gift as a joke. David has been in possession of this card for the past eighteen years.
Based on additional research when Linda left Elvis in November of 1976 she went back to Graceland, Elvis home in Memphis , Tennessee to move her personal belonging. While so doing, she decided to charge up his cards to $30,000, a great sum of money back in those days.
In my opinion this one is one of the credit cards that Linda Thompson used on this spending spree. In fact she may have just used this one. Purchasing high end items then returning them for cash value from Sears. Then simply placing the card in what she believed was safe place with emergency funds. From some of my sources Linda was hurt emotionally, finically broke, thus living with a room mate and basically struggling to survive.
Based on this information this credit card did once belong to Elvis, signed by his then wife Pricilla and found its way in the hands of Linda Thompson.
